Biography

Starting January 1, 2008, Mary T. McDowell is Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer leading the newly established Corporate Development Office. In this role, Mary is responsible for optimizing Nokia’s strategic capabilities and growth potential. She oversees Corporate Business Development, Corporate Strategy, Mobile Software Sales and Marketing, Nokia IT, Office of the Chief Technology Officer, Operational Excellence and Quality, and Solutions Portfolio Management. She is also a member of the Nokia Group Executive Board, a position held since 2004.

Mary joined Nokia in 2004 as Executive Vice President and General Manager of Enterprise Solutions, with responsibility for the development, and manufacturing of Nokia’s range of enterprise products and solutions. This included Nokia Eseries mobile business device range, mobility software, as well as security and mobile connectivity solutions.

A 17-year veteran of HP-Compaq, Mary has a track record of success in building new business and is widely respected as an industry innovator. Prior to joining Nokia, Mary served for five years as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Industry-Standard Servers at Hewlett Packard and Compaq, a multi- billion dollar business and the world's largest server franchise.

In this role, Mary had worldwide P&L responsibility for HP's ProLiant server business, which held the number one position in a highly competitive market for over a decade. Previous assignments include vice president of marketing for the server products division, director of strategic planning and director of systems product marketing. She joined Compaq as a systems engineer in 1986.

Mary was born on July 23, 1964. She holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Illinois.
