A long-standing product design priority at Nokia, we strive to make products that work as efficiently as possible.

During recent years, the capacity of mobile networks has increased, meaning that overall energy consumption has increased as well. However, as the volume and range of services provided by the networks have also expanded, energy efficiency per service has actually increased. For mobile devices, improvements in battery technology have greatly expanded the talk time and thereby the overall energy efficiency of the devices.

Fast facts about the energy efficiency of our products:

  • approximately 70% of energy consumption of Nokia products and operations comes from the use phase of Nokia products
  • energy efficiency of chargers and network elements are a key focus area in R&D
  • the power consumption of Nokia’s next-generation base station, the Flexi WCDMA BS, is 60% less than previous generations
  • standby energy consumption of chargers is about one quarter of the amount consumed in 1999 and exceeds all existing energy efficiency requirements and recommendations
