In addition to our suppliers' operations we also need to consider the products they supply

Our sourcing organization and suppliers play a key role in ensuring that the components and parts used in the products are safe and compliant. We require that all components and parts supplied to us are compliant with the Nokia Substance List, which identifies substances that Nokia has banned, restricted, or targeted for reduction with the aim of phasing out their use in Nokia products. We also require suppliers to have a record of the raw material content of products supplied to us and, if needed, to provide end-of-life treatment recommendations.

Another challenge is to track the origin of raw materials used by our suppliers because supply chains in the electronics industry are both long and complex. We primarily promote environmental and ethical considerations to our first tier suppliers. We inform them that raw materials should not be purchased from sources which do not respect human rights or the environment. We require that our suppliers set similar requirements for their suppliers so that every tier in the supply chain has a responsibility to act ethically.
