How does the calorie counter work?
The calorie counter gives an estimate of the calories burned during a variety of physical activities based on mathematical formula. The calories used depend on age, weight and gender. Select an activity from the list and an intensity level for it, if available; add the duration of activity, and the summary data with the calories will be displayed. You can also select several activities and count the total calories. The total calories can be saved to the calendar to track personal results. You can find the calorie counter under the Extras menu. How does the thermometer work?
The thermometer in the Nokia 5100 mobile phone is a fun feature providing a means to measure the approximate temperature of your surroundings both in Celsius and Fahrenheit. You can activate the Thermometer under Extras, and then select Thermometer.
Note: The thermometer in this phone gives approximate values only and should not be used for professional purposes.

What can I do with the stopwatch?
You can track time, take intermediate times or lap times using the stopwatch. During timing, the other functions of the phone can be used.

How does the sound meter work?
The sound meter is a fun feature that allows you to measure the estimated noise level of your surroundings (dB representation). You can activate the sound meter under Extras, and then select Sound meter.

What is the automatic volume control?
Automatic volume control (AVC) automatically increases or decreases the earpiece volume level according to the environmental noise level. If the environmental noise and/or level of the received speech increases or decreases, AVC changes also the earpiece volume level accordingly and keeps the volume at the right level. AVC can be activated by using menus (Settings, Call settings, Automatic volume control) or you can select it during an active call.

Does the flashlight consume extra battery power?
Using the flashlight does not consume any extra battery power, just as with using any other feature in the phone. If you were to operate the Flashlight continuously, it would have an operating time of up to 8 hours.

How can I activate the Flashlight?
Flashlight can be activated via scroll-up key in standby mode when keyguard is not on. (Flashlight is not included in menus). Holding down the scroll-up key turns flashlight on, pressing it quickly twice keeps flashlight permanently on. Pressing the scroll-up once again turns the light off.

Is there a screensaver in Nokia 5100?
Yes, there is a digital clock screensaver. Partial display mode is a screensaver, which is a power saving in color screen products. In partial display mode only a 32 pixels high area of the display is active and rest of the display is turned off. The active part scrolls over the display from top to bottom. When the partial display mode is activated, the active area is in the top part of the display. After one minute, it starts moving down at one-minute intervals. After it has reached the bottom of the display, it starts again at the top of the display. The digital clock screensaver in Nokia 5100 is fixed and cannot be replaced. The default time-out is 2 minutes and the user can define it between 5 seconds - 60 minutes.

Is there a display brightness control in Nokia 5100?
Yes, there is with 11 levels. You can find it form the Display settings. The default value is optimized value in factory settings.

How do you use the radio in Nokia 5100?
The radio works with a headset and with the integrated handsfree speaker. The headset needs to be connected, as it will be used as an antenna for radio. Frequency band is 87.5MHz - 108MHz.

How does the loudspeaker work?
Nokia 5100 has an earpiece and a built-in handsfree speaker. The handsfree loudspeaker allows speaking and listening to the phone from a short distance without having to hold the phone to the ear, for example, having it on a table nearby or in a carrying strap. The loudspeaker can be used during a call and when viewing and playing tones attached in multimedia messages. Also Stereo FM Radio can be played through the handsfree speaker, but the headset needs to be connected since it works as the antenna. Using the loudspeaker makes it easier to use other applications while in a call.

What can you do with Calendar in the Nokia 5100?
  • In Calendar you can keep track of your appointments, meetings, birthdays, anniversaries and other events. You can also set an alarm to remind you of upcoming events. Calendar has day and month views.
  • Up to 250 entries with an improved navigation and week view functionality, including Reminder, Notes, Call and Birthday notes. Also Calorie counter results can be saved as notes in the Calendar.
  • The Nokia 5100 Calendar can be synchronized e.g. with Microsoft and Lotus PIM application calendars by using the Nokia PC Suite 5.03.


  • What is the To-do list used for?
  • Keeps a list of tasks you need to do containing subject, due date, priority (High, Normal, Low) and tracking mark Done/Not done.
  • Up to 30 entries with priorities.


  • Which kind of numbers and text items can you save in the phonebook?
    The Nokia 5100 offers an advanced phone book with nice overviews and a large amount of information shown; but end-users will see the heritage from their previous Nokia phone. The UI supports multiple numbers per name, preferred number, caller groups, address fields, home page field, and e-mail address.
