Biography
Starting October 1, 2009, Alberto Torres holds the position of Executive Vice President, Solutions, responsible for defining the portfolio of Nokia's solutions across the company, leading Nokia's efforts in design and user experience, and developing computer grade solutions and products based on Nokia's Maemo platform.
In his previous role, Alberto Torres was Senior Vice President, Devices Category Management, responsible for the Devices portfolio and product management at Nokia.
Alberto started his career at Nokia in 2004, leading the strategy team. In 2005 he became President of Vertu, turning around Nokia's pioneering luxury mobile phone division and in 2008 he also became Senior Vice President, Focused Businesses. In this capacity he led Vertu, Nokia's accessory and CDMA businesses, and oversaw the introduction of Nokia connected computers.
Prior to joining Nokia, he spent ten years with McKinsey and Company in France and USA. During this time he worked with high-tech and industry leaders in mobile devices, consumer technologies, software, and Internet services. He also co-led McKinsey's practice in High-Tech M&A.
During his studies he held a number of research positions and was an intern at Apple, IBM and Bellcore. In 1988-1989, Alberto founded and led Gnosis, the Venezuelan consulting and custom software development company.
He holds a doctor's degree in computer science from the Stanford University, and master's and bachelor's degrees in computer science from the Universidad Simón Bolívar.
Alberto has significant public speaking experience and has authored several articles and reports. He has also served as an advisory board member for start-ups and community organizations (Cultural Initiatives Silicon Valley, 2001.)
Alberto was born in Caracas on May 5, 1965. His interests include trekking, gastronomy, travel, motor sports, cinema and art. He is has been married for 14 years and has a daughter born in 2008.
