Help is at hand
If you’ve been an Android, Blackberry or iPhone user for a while, you may feel a little apprehensive about making the switch to Nokia Lumia. But you’ve got nothing to worry about. Because there are all sorts of resources out there, including fantastic free apps, to help make the transition as quick and easy as possible.
So you can spend less time transferring your contacts, music and apps, and more time enjoying them on your new Nokia Lumia.
Let’s get started
You’ve unboxed your new Nokia Lumia, charged it up and now you’re itching to start using it. But all your contacts, photos and apps are still on your old phone. What do you do next?
If you’re simply looking to transfer contacts, you’ll find a free app called Contacts Transfer at the Windows Phone Store that uses Bluetooth to quickly copy contacts between phones. But if you’d rather copy over everything from your old phone in one go, there’s Welcome Home to Windows Phone, a free app from Mark/Space and Nokia.
Welcome Home to Windows Phone
Welcome Home to Windows Phone from Mark/Space is a simple, intuitive app that moves all your contacts, calendars, photos and videos from your Android phone, Blackberry or iPhone to Windows Live on your PC or Mac. Then just plug in your Lumia to your PC or Mac and transfer them across.
It also scans your old phone for apps then produces a list of the Windows Phone versions, with scannable QR codes for easy download. And if it can’t find an exact match, it recommends a good alternative that’s compatible with your Nokia Lumia. For example, if you’re a Pandora user you’ll get a suggestion such as Nokia Music from Windows Phone Store.

Syncing with laptops, desktops and tablets
What if you have a Mac laptop or desktop computer, or even an iPad, and want to sync it with your new Nokia Lumia? No problem, just install the free Windows Phone app for Mac onto your computer. Then when you plug in your Lumia you’ll be able to copy across contacts, calendars, photos and videos. And you can easily transfer content the other way - for example, copy your iTunes music collection from your Mac to your Lumia.
There’s also a version for PC users, the Windows Phone app for Desktop, to help you and your Lumia live in perfect harmony.
