Music app playlists are empty when viewed on Windows Phone 8 - Microsoft Knowledge Base

Average Rating

Symptoms

After you create or import a playlist in the Music app on Windows 8, the playlist is uploaded to the Xbox Music cloud collection. When this playlist is viewed on Windows Phone 8, it is empty or contains fewer songs than expected.

Cause

With Windows Phone 8, your Xbox music cloud collection contains the songs you have purchased from the Xbox Music store or that you have access to via an Xbox Music Pass. If you do not have an Xbox Music Pass, the playlist from your Windows 8 computer may contain songs that are not available to your phone.

You may have:
1. Added songs from your computer's personal music collection which are not available in the Xbox Music cloud collection for your phone.
2. Added Xbox Music songs to the playlist to which are not available in the Xbox Music cloud collection on your phone. With Windows 8 and Windows RT tablets and computers, you can stream millions of songs free. However, on Windows Phone 8, you must get an Xbox Music Pass to have full access to Xbox Music songs.

Resolution

If your playlists contain songs from your computer's personal music collection, create the playlist in the Zune software or create the playlist in Windows Media Player and use the Windows Phone app for desktop to sync the playlist to your phone.

If your playlists contain Xbox Music songs, get an Xbox Music Pass to play these on your phone.

To turn off the Xbox Music cloud collection altogether:
1. Flick left to the App list, tap Settings, and then tap Applications.
2. Tap Music+videos, and then turn Xbox Music cloud collection off.

Podcast s that you copy from your computer to your Windows Phone 8 appear under Music or Videos, not under Podcasts - Microsoft Knowledge Base

Average Rating

Symptoms

When you copy a podcast from your computer to your Windows Phone 8, the podcast appears under Music or Videos in the Music+Videos hub. It does not appear under Podcasts.

Things to Try

U.S.-based users who want podcasts to appear under Podcasts can subscribe to podcasts through the Store using the built in functionality of the phone. When you subscribe to a podcast, podcast episodes appear under Podcasts.

Note Unfortunately, at this time, non-US users can’t connect to Podcasts through the Store.

Here’s how to podcasts through the Store:
1. Open Store and tap Podcasts.
2. Locate the podcast you are interested in and tap Subscribe.
You can also try using Podcast apps (http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/search?q=podcasts)  from the Store, which are available to users who are outside the United States.

If you'd like to make a feature suggestion for Podcasts, please go to the Windows Phone Feature Suggestions (http://windowsphone.uservoice.com/) website and make requests for future releases.

How to tell which Microsoft account is being used by Windows Phone for Xbox, Store, Music Pass, and other services - Microsoft Knowledge Base

Average Rating

Summary

The first Microsoft account (formerly Windows Live ID) that you used to sign in to Windows Phone 7 or Windows Phone 8 is the Microsoft account that will be used for all your Microsoft services, such as Xbox LIVE, Marketplace, Store, Zune, and other services. This account is also the first Microsoft account listed in your accounts list on your phone.

To view your list of accounts in Windows Phone:

1. On Start, flick left to the App list, tap Settings, and then tap Email+accounts.
2. In the list of accounts look for the first account named either "Windows Live" (how it's named on Windows Phone 7) or "Microsoft account" (Windows Phone 8).

Tip If you renamed your first Microsoft account to something other than the default name of “Windows Live” or "Microsoft account", look for the first account with the Windows logo next to it.

How do I retrieve my music licenses for Comes with Music, Nokia Music Unlimited or any other DRM protected music from Nokia Music? - Nokia FAQ

Average Rating

If you are using Comes with Music or Music Unlimited in your phone, you might lose the licences for your music after the update to Nokia Belle (or Later). However, you can retrieve your music licences very easily: When you then start playing a specific song in your phone’s music player for the first time after the update, licenses of the whole corresponding album are automatically re-downloaded (internet connection needed). We recommend that you first open the music store application on your phone and log in using your account credentials. If your phone asks you for a confirmation during the retrieval, simply select Yes.

If you want to re-license all your music at once, you can do this via your computer by using Nokia Suite together with your music store.

  1. Start Nokia Suite and select the Music icon in the taskbar
  2. Copy your music from your phone to your PC by first selecting your phone’s Music Library, then selecting All Artists and finally opening the Tools menu and selecting Copy to Computer.
  3. Wait until all music files are transferred,
  4. After your music is transferred select again all music files in your phone, open the Edit menu and select Delete
  5. Confirm the deletion by selecting Yes and wait until all the music files on your phone are deleting (which takes approx.. 1 minute per 100 songs).
  6. Copy all your music files from your PC to your phone via Nokia Suite. Select your PC’s Music Library, and then select all music files you want to transfer to your phone and finally open the Tools menu and select Copy to phone.

Do I lose the music tracks I have downloaded with my Comes With Music or Nokia Music Unlimited subscription when I update my phone to Nokia Belle software? - Nokia FAQ

Average Rating

If you have the music tracks stored on a memory card or mass memory, all your music tracks are kept safe during the software update to Nokia Belle. If you have the music tracks stored in the phone memory, they are only backed up if they are in C:\Data folder. DRM music licences required to play the music, however, cannot be backed up so you need to relicense all the copy protected music tracks you have on the phone.
