Adaptxt
Predictive text type-ahead technology is getting better and better, and the brand-new KeyPoint Adaptxt for Nokia S60 Smartphones application is an excellent example of this trend. The application applies a sophisticated linguistic analysis of your past and present writing to come up with not just the next character to be typed, but also the next word, phrase, or even whole sentence. It basically learns how best to serve you as you are learning how to use it. Adaptxt can also go back through past messages and "learn" your vocabulary from them.
Adaptxt goes a step further by adapting to the latest turns of phrase by various demographic groups. For example, some teenage users play off of traditional predictive text by saying, "This is book" to indicate that something is cool, or "I'll be good soon" to indicate that they are coming home. Adaptxt learns this jargon and adapts it to predictive text. Similarly, the application also addresses the compressed lettering, or "textonyms," that often turns text messages into their own form of language. It learns, for example, how to convert "fyi a l8r d8 is btr" into "For your information, a later date is better." It can also do the reverse, converting longer phrases into the compressed format. "Whatever language or words you decide to use, Adaptxt will learn and utilize it in future messages. For example, it can learn Spanglish, the combination of Spanish and English, or adapt to business jargon." The application supports a variety of S60 3rd Edition devices, as well as the e-mail and text client applications on Nokia Eseries and Nseries devices. The application is currently available in English, with many more languages to follow soon. For more information and to download a free trial version of Adaptxt, visit www.adaptxt.com.
