Aruba Networks Mobile Voice Continuity
You walk as you talk, or you drive as you talk, and you don't want your call to be disconnected unless it's by your choice. You also want your mobile device to be able to switch seamlessly between connection sources, depending on factors such as which source is the most available or costs the least. An answer to these requirements for users of S60 3rd Edition devices is Aruba Networks, Inc.'s Mobile Voice Continuity (MVC). This fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) product includes a WLAN controller that connects to enterprise networks, as well as client software that runs on S60 3rd Edition devices. The WLAN controller supports 802.11 type A, B, G, and N radio, and over Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) communicates with enterprise private branch exchanges (PBXs) or unified communications servers that provide features. MVC provides call continuity.
With MVC, Nokia Eseries smartphones can roam between access points over Aruba infrastructure in 25 to 35 milliseconds (ms). Further, through MVC's adoption of 802.11k procedures, the battery life enhancements can be significant and the accuracy of radio measurements approach granularity that will allow the Nokia Eseries devices to select a candidate access point faster and more efficiently during an active voice call. There have also been innovations in the location prediction that ultimately help in the support of Enhanced 911 (E911) capabilities on WLAN infrastructure. There is also seamless handoff between enterprise wireless connection and carrier connection. In the new domain called WLAN edge prediction, Aruba Networks publishes micro-cell radio frequency (RF) knowledge to the client software, which can then utilize this information to make intelligent decisions to transition the service gracefully from one network to another.
