McObject Perst Lite
Targeted at enterprise and embedded developers and others creating mobile applications within the Java™ J2ME development environment, Perst Lite, from McObject, LLC., is an open source object-oriented database that can be used in embedded applications (midlets) on S60 3rd Edition and S60 2nd Edition devices. Perst Lite is more tightly integrated with the Java language than are relational databases or tools that provide object/relational mapping. It stores the data directly as Java objects. This eliminates the need for time-consuming run-time conversions between Java data and the relational representation of that data. The result: Better performance and a smaller footprint in your applications.

It also solves the persistence problem commonly encountered with Java objects. Perst Lite data is persistent, so that it can be reused. In general, Perst Lite is a ready-made alternative to the developer's self-developed data-management solutions. It presents a fully featured database-management system that provides an innovative solution to the challenges of object caching and garbage collection in a Java™ Platform, Micro Edition (Java™ ME) application. It has a very small run-time footprint that varies from 30 kB to 300 kB, depending on database access patterns. Best of all, it provides real transactions, supporting the ACID properties of Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, and Durability. It supports multithreaded data access as well as multiple index types, such as B-tree, Patricia trie, bit index, T-tree, and R-tree indexes.
