Trimble Geocache Navigator
Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting game in which participants use a global positioning system (GPS) receiver or other navigational techniques to hide and seek small containers called “geocaches.” The real treasure is not in the trinkets you find in the geocaches themselves, but the thrill of discovering the geocaches. The game has grown in the past few years to the point where there are now 650,000 geocaches registered throughout all seven continents. For each item you take from the geocache, you leave behind an item of equal or greater value for the next treasure seeker.
Trimble Geocache Navigator makes geocaching easy for users of certain GPS-enabled S60 devices. These include the Nokia N95 multimedia computer, Nokia N82 device, and Nokia 6110 Navigator. Whether you are heading into the great outdoors with friends or getting some fresh air with the kids, Geocache Navigator is easy for beginners to use and yet contains all the features for the advanced geocacher. The free application provides real-time access to the world's largest geocache database, Groundspeak Inc.'s www.geocaching.com. Using your present location derived from your GPS, it retrieves a list of the geocaches nearest you, along with hints and descriptions left behind by other geocachers before you. Once you've selected the geocache you want to pursue, Geocache Navigator also acts as a compass, giving you a radar screen showing direction and distance to the geocache, and a mapping facility that gives you street, topographical, and aerial photography views. The application also makes it easy for you to log your discovery of the geocache into the www.geocaching.com database. As a result, the user enjoys the whole geocaching experience without having to use a standalone GPS device, cables or paper printouts. The free application is supported by location-relevant advertising placed in the cache search results. Download it from www.GeocacheNavigator.com/nokia.
