Our chargers use less power than ever before. Over the last decade, we have reduced the average no-load power consumption of our chargers by over 80%, and our best-in-class chargers by over 95%. To help you save energy and do your bit for the environment, a group of mobile manufacturers led by Nokia has launched a common energy rating system for chargers. The system makes it easy for you to compare and choose the most energy efficient charger. And we’re making them even more efficient.
In order to continuously improve the energy efficiency, environmental sustainability and safety of our chargers, we apply new technologies and advances in materials in our new models.
Older Nokia devices are not compatible with the new more efficient and powerful chargers, like High Efficiency Charger AC-8. But if you have extra chargers at home left over from previous models having 3.5mm interface, you can use a CA-44 adapterand re-use them.
Through a 2mm charging interface we’re working to make it possible to use the same charger for different products. We’ve made the specification available for all. We have also option available for microUSB charging.
All our new charger models meet or exceed the EPA's Energy Star v.2.0 requirements. Energy Star version 2.0 no-load criteria is 0.3 W. The below table indicates the no-load power consumption of the Nokia chargers currently available. The devices using these chargers are also Energy Star v.2.0 compliant.
| Nokia Charger Model | No-load power consumption | Exceeds Energy Star no-load criteria | Launched | Energy efficiency compliancy |
| AC-3 | > 0.15W | 50% | June 2005 | CEC, EU CoC, Energy Star |
| AC-5 | > 0.3W | in par with criteria | April 2007 | CEC, EU CoC, Energy Star |
| AC-6 | > 0.15W | 50% | June 2007 | CEC, EU CoC, Energy Star |
| AC-8 | > 0.03W | 90% | July 2007 | CEC, EU CoC, Energy Star |
| AC-10 | > 0.03W | 90% | September 2008 | CEC, EU CoC, Energy Star |
