Further to the product advisory for the European and UK variant of the AC-300 charger, Microsoft Mobile has announced an exchange programme for the affected plug of the charger.

Consumers in Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Russia, Switzerland and UK who have the AC-300 charger which is used exclusively with the Lumia 2520 tablet were strongly advised on the 17th April 2014 to suspend use of the charger until further notice.

In addition, people who purchased the Lumia 2520 travel charger accessory in Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Russia, Switzerland, UK and the US were also strongly advised to suspend use of the travel charger accessory.

Microsoft Mobile is encouraging consumers in the UK with the affected charger to register their details so that Microsoft Mobile can provide a remedy that will address the product quality issue. Those consumers with an affected charger will be sent a replacement UK charger plug to attach to their charger base.

The AC-300 charger is exclusively designed to be used with Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet. All other Nokia chargers can be used in a normal manner.

REGISTER FOR A REPLACEMENT CHARGER PLUG

For those with an affected charger, we recommend that you register using this web-form to enable Microsoft Mobile to provide a replacement plug for the affected part. As Topic, select “Lumia 2520 charger (AC-300)”.

If you have also purchased the Travel Charger accessory, register also under “Lumia 2520 travel charger (AC-300)”. In addition to a new UK charger plug, we will send you a new EU charger plug.

In the web-form you will be requested to enter the IMEI of your Lumia 2520 tablet. The 15-digit IMEI number is visible in small print on the back of the SIM / memory card tray once removed.

How do I know if I have an affected charger?

In order to determine if you have an affected charger, you will first need to remove the current charger plug from the charging base.

Once the charger plug is removed, you should check to see if the charger plug has a serial number on the side.

If the charger plug contains a serial number, it is not affected by this advisory and you can reconnect it to the charging base.

If the charger plug does not have a serial number, we strongly advise you to suspend use of the charger and to register for a replacement plug for your charger using the above web-form to enable Microsoft Mobile to provide a replacement plug for the affected part.

What should people with an affected charger do?

We strongly advise you to suspend use of the charger until further notice and to register for a replacement plug for your charger using the above web-form.

How long will it take for me to get a replacement plug for the charger?

We are now able to provide a replacement plug for the charger and it will be available from 8th May 2014. Once your details are registered with us and the charger plug is available, we aim to deliver the replacement plug to you within 7 business days, or sooner.

Can I use my charger while I wait for a replacement?

If you own any one of the chargers identified in our original product advisory, we strongly advise that you to stop using it. We apologize to the owners of the Lumia 2520, and we are working with urgency to minimize the inconvenience.

What should I do when I get the replacement charger plug?

Once you have received the replacement, instructions for fitting the new part can be found here:
www.nokia.com/2520-charger/fix

We will also provide a pre-paid return label to return the potentially affected charger plug to Microsoft Mobile, so that it can be properly recycled.

As an interim solution, I received US or EU charger plug. Do I need to register again to get the new UK charger plug?

No, those consumers that previously requested a US or EU plug to be used as an interim solution will automatically be sent a UK replacement plug.

You are not changing the charger itself, will it be OK when the replacement part is fitted?

As we stated in the product advisory, under certain conditions, the plastic cover of the charger’s exchangeable plug could come loose and separate. If loose and separated, certain internal components pose a hazard of an electric shock if touched while the plug remains in a live socket.

The replacement plug being sent to you will allow you to use your AC-300 charger safely.

Is it safe to keep the charger if it is not in use?

We strongly advise that people stop using the affected charger and to register with Microsoft Mobile for a replacement plug for their AC-300 charger.

We will also provide a pre-paid return label to return the potentially affected charger plug to Microsoft Mobile, so that it can be properly recycled.

Has the use of the charger harmed my device?

We are not aware of any instances of this happening.

Is there a defect to the Lumia 2520 itself? Windows RT?

This advisory is only for the European and UK variant of the AC-300 charger plug and the charger travel accessory, which were manufactured by a third-party supplier.

I have other Nokia chargers. Can I use them as a replacement for the AC-300 charger?

The AC-300 charger for the Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet features an exclusive design that differs from other Nokia chargers.

Was there a gift voucher available?

This offer was valid until 31 May, 2014 to help compensate for the inconvenience caused by this situation. People that registered on our website by 31 May, 2014 are eligible for a gift voucher.
