FAQ - What should I check if no GPS fix obtained or it takes a long time to get a fix when A-GPS enabled?

Use Assisted GPS (A-GPS) to speed up the location fix. Assisted GPS can be enabled in Positioning methods menu in your device, e.g:

  • Menu > Settings > Phone > Application sett. > Positioning > Positioning methods (e.g. Nokia N97 mini)
  • Menu > Settings > Application settings > Positioning > Positioning methods (e.g. Nokia N8-00)

If the GPS fix cannot be obtained or it takes a long time, check the following in the Assisted GPS settings:

  1. Go to Positioning server settings. Depending on your device, select:
    • Menu > Settings > Phone > Application sett. > Positioning > Positioning server (e.g. Nokia N97 mini).
    • Menu > Settings > Application settings > Positioning > Positioning server > Server settings > supl.nokia.com (e.g. Nokia N8-00).
  2. Check that a correct access point is selected in Access point setting for the positioning server. (In some cases a wrong access point may have been assigned in the settings).
  3. Check that Only in home network = No (otherwise A-GPS is not in use when you are roaming, causing the GPS fix to take a long time).

Note that A-GPS connects to a positioning server over internet to fetch the satellite information and data costs may incur when transferring data.
