Nokia Joins 'Solutions for Hope' Initiative to use Validated Conflict-Free DRC Tantalum in Products

Nokia has been working since 2001 to ensure full traceability of metals back to their original sources by targeting its own suppliers as well as through several industry initiatives. Nokia has recently complemented its efforts by joining in the Solutions for Hope initiative to enable validated conflict-free tantalum from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to be used in its products.

“Nokia already has a comprehensive program to strive for conflict-free sourcing and it is one of the corner stones of our supply chain sustainability efforts. The Solutions for Hope Initiative complements our efforts in this area and it enables us to support sourcing from Democratic Republic of Congo while ensuring that the raw materials that are used in our products do not contribute to the conflict in the region.” said Jarkko Sakki, Vice President of Sourcing at Nokia.

The Solutions for Hope initiative was developed to create a ‘closed pipe’ secure supply chain, delivering from in-region traceable materials through independently assessed transport routes to a validated conflict-free smelter.
