Junior Achievement Ghana and Nokia nurture students entrepreneurial skills and business management through MyShop application

Nokia MyShop application helps young people build entrepreneurial skills and technological management for business

Accra, Ghana – An initiative by Junior Achievement (JA) of Ghana in collaboration with Nokia delivers an educational program to high school students to improve personal opportunities through realistic learnings within student-led enterprises using the Nokia MyShop application.

The MyShop applicaton, was developed by the Nokia Research Centre (NRC) Africa team in Nairobi, as an innovation for microbusiness users not only in Africa but also the rest of the world. It’s an easy-to-use small business application that helps small enterprises and entrepreneurs to keep track of their stock and cash transactions. Nokia MyShop aims to fill the gap resulting from a lack of applications for smaller businesses in the developing world that can be used on affordable mobile phones.

According to the Executive Director of JA Ghana, Jefferson Agbai the easy to use application for running a small businesses book keeping is an innovation that will help the JA Company Program students inject efficiency in their enterprise operations.
“Nokia is very excited to be part of this program,” says Nick Imudia, MD for Nokia in West Central Africa. “Our social investments approach is to use mobile technology to improve education, health, business and learning. This includes life skills and youth development. By incorporating Nokia MyShop into the existing Junior Achievement Ghana Program, there is strong alignment”.

Since 2010, Nokia has supported JA Ghana and contributed to the initiative impacting the life and entrepreneurial skills of more than 500 students.
It is expected that by the end of the program, participating students will have gained valuable business experience, increased awareness of entrepreneurship education in the wider community and the practical skills necessary to do business via mobile technology remarked Kwabena G.Kugblenu, Programme Communications of JA Ghana.
