Nokia will switch off lights for Earth Hour at the main office sites around the world
On Saturday 23 March, at 8:30pm, Nokia will switch off lights for Earth Hour at the main office sites around the world. Earth Hour is an awareness raising event organized by WWF aiming to inspire people to live a climate-friendly life and send a message that climate change requires swift decisions. Turning off lights is a way to demonstrate the power of people when working together towards climate awareness.
Even though Nokia is not an energy intensive company and most of the greenhouse gas emissions occur in component manufacturing by our suppliers or in the usage of our products, we want to show leadership. We do that by reducing our own energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, and take responsibility in raising awareness and promoting best practices in our value chain and industry.
We created our first climate strategy in 2006, revised it in 2010, and started updating new, longer term reduction targets in 2012 concentrating on:
• manufacturing, facilities and way of working
• logistics and suppliers
• helping our customers to decrease their own greenhouse gas footprint
Read more about our targets at the Strategy and Reports page on this website.
