Learn how to protect your device, and keep your data secure.
Set your device to lock automatically
Want to protect your device against unauthorised use? Define a lock code, and set your device to lock itself automatically when you're not using it.

Select Menu > Settings and Phone > Phone management > Security settings > Phone and SIM card .

Select Lock code, and enter a lock code. A minimum of 4 characters is required, and numbers, symbols, and upper and lower case letters can be used.
Keep the lock code secret and in a safe place separate from your device. If you forget the lock code and your device is locked, your device will require service. Additional charges may apply, and all the personal data on your device may be deleted. For more information, contact a Nokia Care point or your device dealer.

Select Phone autolock period, and define the length of time after which the device is locked automatically.
Lock your device manually

Press and hold the power key
, and select Lock phone. -
Enter the lock code.
Unlock your device

Press the power key
or the menu key, and select Unlock. -
Enter the lock code.
To switch between the numeric and alphanumeric keypad, press and hold #.

Encrypt your data
Want to protect your data against unauthorised use? You can encrypt data on your phone using an encryption key. You can also encrypt your memory card, and protect your encryption key with a password.
Select Menu > Settings > Phone > Phone management > Security settings > Encryption .
It may take several minutes to encrypt or decrypt your data. During the encryption process, do not:

Use your phone unless you have to

Switch your phone off
If you haven't set your phone to lock itself automatically when not in use, you are prompted to do so when you encrypt your data for the first time.
Select Encryption off.
Encrypt a memory card

Select Encryption off > Encrypt and save key .

Enter a password to protect your encryption key. The password must have at least 4 characters, and you can use upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols.

Name your encryption key to help you find the correct key when you need it.
You can also use an existing key or encrypt your memory card without a key.
Select Encryption on.
Select Encryption on > Decrypt .
To decrypt your memory card and deactivate encryption, select Encryption on > Decrypt & disable encrypt. .
Lock your device remotely
Forgot your device at work and want to lock it to prevent unauthorised use? You can lock your device remotely using a predefined text message. You can also lock the memory card remotely.
Enable remote locking

Select Menu > Settings and Phone > Phone management > Security settings > Phone and SIM card > Remote phone locking > Enabled .

Enter the text message content. It can be 5-20 characters, and both upper and lower case letters can be used.

Enter the same text again to verify it.

Enter the lock code.
To lock the device remotely, write the predefined text, and send it to your device as a text message.
To unlock your device, you need the lock code.
