Based in over 45 countries, with customers in more than 147 countries, the Dutch company Wolters Kluwer is a leading global provider of professional information services. See how Nokia helped to extend the presence of its UK consultants and work with clients and colleagues more productively.

Since 1836, Wolters Kluwer has published information and created intellectual tools to help professionals make better, informed decisions. In its UK operations, Wolters Kluwer decided its consultants could be even more productive if they had mobile email at their fingertips. The aim was to help them respond to customer queries faster, manage meetings and work with increased efficiency.

According to Steve Wright, IT director at Wolters Kluwer UK, his team tested Nokia and BlackBerry smartphones for functionality and compared them on a cost-for-cost basis. The standout difference: the total cost of ownership for the Nokia solution was significantly lower than BlackBerry.

Lower costs, high performance

“Our budget was a major factor when we compared Nokia against BlackBerry” says Mr Wright. “The financial outlay of adding and managing middleware for BlackBerry, plus its additional ongoing costs, combined with higher monthly costs per device made it just too expensive. We decided that Nokia was the best value solution for mobile email.”

The Nokia E5 was chosen for a number of reasons: it integrates easily with Mail for Exchange and comes with Office Communicator pre-installed. People also said they like the full QWERTY keypad and the battery life of the Nokia E5, which will last for up to 25 days in standby mode. The E5 also features Nokia Maps with built-in satellite navigation – a very handy business tool for finding locations and meeting with clients and colleagues.

Results
  • Increased business efficiency, productivity and customer satisfaction
  • No extra investment required for servers, licences or service fees
  • No additional middleware or special training required
  • Built-in Nokia Maps negates extra investment in satnav tools

Results to raise smiles

According to Mr Wright, the Nokia E5 with Mail for Exchange solution was successfully deployed by Vodafone Global Enterprise with excellent results. Wolters Kluwer consultants are pleased because they found it so much easier to do their jobs on the move. Wolters Kluwer clients are happy because the company responds even more quickly to their needs.

Another time-saving application the team loved is the Office Communicator software that comes with the Nokia E5. The app lets people see a colleague’s availability and choose the best way to communicate – by instant messaging, email, text or voice. “Presence technology is definitely the way forward,” says Mr Wright. With no extra investment required for middleware, servers, licences or service fees, and increased business efficiency, productivity and customer satisfaction, it’s easy to see why.
