Troubleshooting for Nokia Car Mode

Nokia Car Mode is available for devices running Nokia Belle phone software, except for the devices below which are not supported:

• Nokia E6-00
  
• Nokia 500
  

If your phone is running older version than Nokia Belle, you need to update to Nokia Belle before you can start using Nokia Car Mode.

In addition to Nokia Belle phone software, Nokia Maps version 3.08 or later needs to be installed in the phone.

If the MirrorLink connection between your phone and the car unit is not working, check the following:

• Check that you have Nokia Car Mode application installed in your phone.
  
• Check that your phone is properly connected via USB to the car unit. Disconnect the USB cable and check that the Nokia Suite USB mode is selected on your phone (Settings > Connectivity > USB). Then connect the USB cable again.
  
• Switch off and restart the phone and the car unit.
  
• Reset the car unit if the unit has a reset switch.
  
• If you have an antivirus software protecting your phone and blocking the external connections, try disabling the software while using the Mirrorlink connection.

Note that Sony XAV-601BT, XAV-W601BT, XAV-701BT, XAV-701HD and XAV-741 will automatically launch an application depending on the state of the parking brake. Nokia Car Mode is launched when the vehicle is in motion, whereas the phone home screen is launched and visible when the vehicle is parked.

Nokia Car Mode is an application to make it easier to access selected functions of your phone in the car during driving. Car Mode minimizes driver distraction by bringing most relevant functions easily accessible. For driver’s convenience device lock is disabled and screen is always lit in order to provide instant access.

The following functions are available via the Car Mode screen:

• Call
  
• Drive (navigation)
  
• Music
  

In addition, sound notifications and audio output of SMS messages and calendar events is available in Car Mode.

Nokia Car Mode is designed to be used as a standalone application in the phone or with MirrorLink compliant car units. MirrorLink (formerly known as Terminal Mode) is a technology specification proposed as an industry standard for the integration of mobile applications into the car environment.

Nokia Car Mode application can be downloaded from Nokia Store for the compatible phones (Nokia Belle phones).

No, FM Transmitter in Nokia Car Mode can be used only for transmitting music, not the Drive voice commands.

Nokia Car mode uses USB for the MirrorLink connection to the car head unit but you need to pair your phone also via bluetooth if you want to use the hands-free feature with the head unit.

In Nokia Car Mode main menu select Music. The Music player starts in shuffle all tracks mode with the following options shown on the screen:

• Album art: Tap to shuffle to next track.
  
• Pause / Play button.
  
• Previous Track / Next Track: Tap to shuffle to the previous or next track. Tap and hold to fast rewind or forward the track.
  
• Menu key: Select Shuffle all songs, Artists and albums, or Playlists mode.
  
• FM Transmitter: Select FM Transmitter options.
  

Switch to another application via the Nokia Car Mode main menu. To return from the applications back to the Car Mode menu, select:

• In Call and Music: tap the return arrow.
  
• In Drive when no navigation active: tap X.
  
• In Drive when navigation active: tap Menu > Car Mode.
  

Active calls, drive navigation and music player stay in background when switching to Car Mode menu.

Pinch-zoom doesn't work on the car unit which is connected to the phone via MirrorLink. You can, however, pinch-zoom on the phone in the Nokia Car Mode Drive view.

In Nokia Car Mode main menu, select Call. The following functions are available when using the Call feature:

• Recent calls.
  
  • Tap an entry in the list to initiate a call.
    
• Contacts.
  
  • Favourite contacts are shown at the top of the list (marked with star icon).
    
  • Contacts can be found either by scrolling or by searching.
    
• Dialler.
  
  • Dial a number to initiate a call.
    

During an active call you can control the volume, speaker options and mute the call from the buttons on the screen.

Notifications are received from the following events when Nokia Car Mode application is active:

• When a new message is received.
  
• When a calendar reminder activates.
  
• When the alarm clock rings.
  

When a notification is received, audio alarm is played and a notification window is opened in other modes except Drive. In Drive mode you must return to the Car Mode main menu to view the notification.

In the notification window, select Open to hear the audio output of the received message or calendar details. Tap the Open button again to stop the reading.
