My phone screen goes blank during the software update. Is this normal? - Nokia FAQ

Average Rating

Yes, your Nokia phone display will go blank while being updated or state "local / test mode", and when doing the update via Nokia Suite, your PC can display "Device disconnected". Do not disconnect your phone at this time but wait for the update to finish.

As soon as the update is completed, the phone will reboot and the phone screen should be back to normal.

Why does my device screen turn black from time to time? (Series 40 Phones) - Nokia FAQ

Average Rating

Your device screen light is turned off after a certain time your device is not in use (the time varies between device models), this is designed specifically for your device to save the battery power. It is not possible to change it. But you can turn on the light easily by pressing any key.

Note: the screen saver can be turned on or off separately in Menu > Settings > Display > Screen saver, select a screen saver and the time-out. The screen saver is activated in standby mode after the defined time-out. After the time-out of the screen saver, the power saver will be automatically activated.

Nokia 2700 and 2730 phones do not have screen saver.

Why am I getting a connection error when making a call? - Nokia FAQ

Average Rating

A typical situation for a phone call to fail is when the network is busy. This may be sometimes noticeable in areas where an unexpectedly high amount of users are occupying the network. In most cases, an error which returns from the base station indicates that the network is currently too busy to handle the call request.

Solution proposals for the connection error:

  • You should try call again. If issue is seen daily/weekly in certain location, it is advisable to contact the local operator and tell them what is the place where this happens usually.
  • Activate the OFFLINE profile, which will completely disconnect access to the operator network, then turn it back to GENERAL profile and allow the phone to connect to the network again.

How can I prolong my battery life on my Nokia phone? - Nokia FAQ

Average Rating

Use the following guidelines to increase your battery life time:

  • Turn Bluetooth off when you do not need it.
  • Specify that your Nokia phone does not scan, or scans less often, for available Wireless LAN (WLAN) networks in the backround when you do not need WLAN connections (to turn off scanning, disable Show WLAN availability in Wireless LAN settings).
  • If you have set Packet data connection to When available in connection settings, and there is no packet data coverage (GPRS), your Nokia phone periodically tries to establish a packet data connection. To prolong the operating time of your Nokia phone, select Packet data connection > When needed.
  • The Maps application downloads new map information when you scroll to new areas on the map, which increases the demand on battery power. Prevent the automatic download of new maps.
  • If the signal strength of the cellular network varies much in your area, your Nokia phone must scan for the available network repeatedly. This increases the demand on battery power.  If the Network mode is set to dual mode in the network settings, the Nokia phone searches for the UMTS network. To use only the GSM network, select Network mode > GSM
  • The backlight of the display increases the demand on battery power. In the display settings, you can change the time-out after which the backlight is switched off, and adjust the light sensor that observes lighting conditions and adjusts the display brightness.
  • Leaving applications running in the background increases the demand on battery power. Close the applications you are not using.
  • Turn off vibrate function of your Nokia phone, using just the ring tone.
  • Avoid using moving or animated pictures or videos for your Nokia phone's background.
  • Turn off your Nokia phone whenever you do not plan to answer any calls, for example while you are sleeping.
  • Make sure your phone is running the latest software. For downloads and assistance, go to your local Nokia website's support page.

If the battery loses the power fast even though there is no features consuming the power, the battery may be wearing out and you need to replace it with a new one.
