Why is my GPS (Global Positioning System) very slow after software update on my Symbian ^3 device? - Nokia FAQ

Average Rating

This can be fixed by changing the settings in the Assisted GPS server. Do the following steps:

  • Select Menu  > Settings > Application Settings > Positioning > Positioning server > Server Settings.
  • It shows:  1 supl.nokia.com.
  • By tapping that, it shows: Server address* Supl.nokia.com and Only in home network Yes.
  • Switch Only in home network to No.

This setting should be set to No, because otherwise if you are in a different network than your home network your phone will not use GPS assistance, which results in a long wait to get a GPS fix.

Why does my device go online when starting a GPS application, e.g. Sports Tracker? - Nokia FAQ

Average Rating

Internet connection may be established if the application checks for software updates or if the phone fetches the positioning information from a positioning server when the application starts to use GPS.

Check the application settings and use WLAN as the access point in the Access point setting if you don't want that the internet connection is established over cellular network.

To disable the connections to positioning servers, select Menu > Settings > Application settings > Positioning > (Find my location) > Positioning methods and disable the following methods:

  • Assisted GPS (A-GPS)
  • Wi-Fi/Network
  • Network based

Use only Integrated GPS as the positioning method if you don't want any network connection established.

Note that disabling the above positioning methods will increase the time to get a GPS fix.

Can I use the "three finger" reset to hard reset my Nokia Symbian^3 device? - Nokia FAQ

Average Rating

It is not recommended to use the "three finger" reset (pressing volume down + camera key + menu key and pressing power button) to hard reset your Nokia Symbian^3 device. Doing this may delete some applications (Nokia Store, Nokia Maps, some preinstalled widgets) which cannot in all cases be restored.

If the device needs to be reset, try the following methods instead of the "three finger" reset:

  1. Press down the power button for 8 seconds.
  2. Restore the factory settings by selecting Menu > Settings > Phone > Phone management > Factory settings > Restore.
  3. Restore the factory settings and delete all data by selecting Menu > Settings > Phone > Phone management > Factory settings > Delete data and restore. (Note that all the user files on E: mass memory and C: phone memory will be deleted with this command, e.g. the photos and videos. It is therefore important to backup the user data before using this command).

The "three finger" reset should be used only as a last resort if the device cannot be booted up in any other way. If successful, the device can be used after the reset but some of the applications are missing. To restore the missing applications and settings, you can try the following:

  • Reinstall phone software with Nokia Suite.
  • Select Menu > SW Update (or Menu > Applications > SW Update) and install any updates that are available.
  • If Nokia Store application is successfully restored, connect to Nokia Store to search and install the missing applications (check My Stuff menu for the applications you have previously installed).
  • Check also for any application updates available via Nokia Suite (plug in your device to Nokia Suite PC and go to Software Updates menu in Nokia Suite).
  • If any device backup is available, try restoring the data from the backup.

If the device cannot be properly restored, take it to a Nokia Care point for reflashing to get the original applications back in the device.

When I try to update to Nokia Belle with Nokia Suite, I get an error message that there is not enough space on my W:// drive. What should I do? - Nokia FAQ

Average Rating

This error message could be due to the following two scenarios:

  1. The error message about your W: drive indicates that there’s not enough space left on your PC drive that Nokia Suite tries to load the update files to. Please free up space the drive mentioned.
  2. You have mapped your default Users-folder to a network drive on your PC and are then getting the error, as Nokia Suite 3.3 does not yet support the handling of network drives for those cases. To solve the issue, open Nokia Suite and go to Tools > Options > My Phones. Scroll down there and change the default backup folder location to for example C:\temp (or any other folder on local drive). Then restart the update process.

How do I setup iSync to work with my Nokia Symbian phone? - Nokia FAQ

Average Rating

Do the following:

  1. Most of Nokia Symbian phones require that you install iSync plugin to work. To find the iSync Plugin software, go to you local website and navigate to Support > your phone model > Downloads.
  2. Connect your Nokia phone to your Mac, either via Bluetooth or USB cable.

All Nokia phones supported by iSync can connect to your Mac through Bluetooth. However, selected Nokia phone models can also be synchronized through a USB cable in addition to using Bluetooth. If iSync supports both Bluetooth and USB connections to your Nokia phone, you can choose whichever connection method you prefer for the initial setup.Note that the data connection you choose will be the default connection method between your Nokia phone and iSync on your Mac. If you wish to change it in the future, you will need to remove your Nokia phone from iSync and run this set up again, using the new connection method.
  3. Launch the iSync application on your Mac. Go to Finder menu > Go > Applications > iSync.
  4. From the iSync menu, select add device, then chose your Nokia phone from the list.
  5. Your Nokia phone will be added to the iSync window. You may now sync your calendar and contact info.
