Just hit the volume key and access the quick controls to pause or skip to the next track. Even when the phone is locked.

Now playing

When listening to music from your own library, by clicking the ‘up next’ section which appears below the album art you can access the ‘now playing’ screen which includes shuffle or repeat controls.
