Troubleshooting for Nokia N9-00

To use Google Talk video call you need to have PR1.2 update (30.2012.07-1) in your N9 device and download the Gtalk Video Call application from the Nokia Store. Once you have installed the application, the device will automatically reboot.

If not already activated, activate the Gtalk account in Accounts > Google > Google Talk.

Video calling is fully integrated to Contacts and Phone applications on the phone and there is no separate application icon for this feature. The persons to whom you are calling must have Google Talk Video Call capable device (mobile/tablet/computer).
 
To start a video call, open the Contacts application and select the online Gtalk contact to whom you would like to make video call. The contact card shows the Video Call button under the Gtalk service. Press it to start the video call.
 
Tips for using Gtalk:

• Once you have made a Gtalk video call to a contact, you can make another video call to the same contact from the call history in the Phone application.
•  You can upgrade a Gtalk audio call to video call by pressing the camera button on the call UI during the Gtalk audio call.
• You can switch between the front and back cameras during the video call.
• Double tapping on the video will fit the whole video in single screen along with the controls during the video call.

If the installation of the Gtalk Video Call application doesn't succeed, uninstall first the older version and retry the installation:

• Go to Settings > Applications > Manage applications.
• Select Gtalk video call and select Uninstall.
  
• Install Gtalk video call application again from Nokia Store.

The phone was designed with simplicity and sleekness in mind, which is why it was necessary to minimise the amount of apertures in the phone structure. This why there is no HDMI connector on the phone.

You can connect to your TV or home stereo system by using the 3.5 mm AV connector. With some TV sets you can also use the USB mass storage mode for the connection, using your phone as USB memory storage device.

To preserve battery life, some applications, such as Maps, video player and camera, enter stand-by mode when you swipe to home and leave the application running in the background.

The browser pauses javascript and other potentially battery consuming tasks when you swipe to home. This prolongs battery life, and also helps save data costs. Still, you can easily return to the pages where you left them.

In the Events view, feeds are updated in the background in pre-defined time periods. This keeps the view fresh but preserves battery life. You can also refresh the view manually, if you prefer.

Your phone does a few things automatically to reduce mobile data costs. If there is a known WLAN connection available, your phone switches to it immediately. To minimise data costs, and also to save battery, Maps enters stand-by mode when you swipe to home.

You can change the settings to disable background internet connection to further save on data costs. However, for the best user experience, it is recommended that you contact your operator to invest in a fixed fee data plan that prevents unexpected data costs but provides freedom to experience your phone as it’s intended to be.

Do the following:

1. Connect your phone to the computer with a compatible USB cable.
2. Click the round icon at the bottom-right side of the Nokia Link window, and select Back up and Restore from the menu.
3. Choose whether you want to have a weekly automatic backup created out of your phone's content. An automatic backup takes only a few minutes to run.
4. When you're ready to start, click New backup.
5. Wait until the backup is finished. Note that you can't cancel the back up once it has started.

Backing up saves your calendar, contacts, messages, applications, call history, personal settings, and account information. Media files (music, photos, videos) are left untouched.

You can use your N9 as a modem via Nokia Suite v3.5 (or later). Plug in your phone in Sync and Connect mode to your PC and select Tools > Connect to internet in Nokia Suite.

You can connect your PC to internet also by setting up your Nokia N9 to provide a local Wi-Fi Hotspot. This gives internet access through your phone for not only one but multiple PCs. To set up Wi-Fi Hotspot in your N9, start the Wi-Fi Hotspot application, define the Wi-Fi settings (e.g. Network name, Encryption mode) and select Start. Connect then your PC to the Wi-Fi network provided by the hotspot.

Nokia Link doesn't support contacts and calendar sync, but Nokia N9 offers you many other ways to do such syncing. N9 has device to device sync support for bringing contacts from your old device to N9 and for some devices also calendar can be synced. N9 supports Mail for Exchange, GMAIL^TM or any POP/ IMAP capable mail servers. With Mail for Exchange not only the email is synced, but you can also sync contacts and calendar for services like Outlook, Windows Live^TM and GMAIL^TM.

If you have previously synced your contacts e.g. from your old phone to Nokia online service, you can sync the contacts back to your Nokia N9 by using the Nokia account sync.

Calendar entries from your PC Outlook can be synchronised via a remote calendar service, e.g. via Windows Live^TM and GMAIL^TM (see separate FAQs for more details).

Starting from Nokia Suite version 3.5, you can use also Nokia Suite for syncing your contacts and calendar.

Nokia Link is a lightweight computer app with which you can move your music, photos, and videos easily between your Nokia N9 phone and a Windows or Mac computer.
You can also copy mobile content to your favourite applications on the computer, like Windows Media Player and iTunes.
And what is more, with Nokia Link you can quickly create a backup of your Nokia N9’s content, and later restore it if need be.
