With Maps v3.01 and earlier:
Route planning is a free feature but navigation is an extra service, which is available for purchase.
Route planning calculates and displays a route between two locations. A route simulation (with voice commands) is also possible (without paying additional license fees).
Navigation means that the route is calculated from your current GPS position to a chosen destination (for mobile devices without an internal GPS receiver, an external GPS receiver may be necessary; check your mobile device’s manual to see if it is equipped with an internal GPS receiver). The navigation is voice-guided, meaning it tells you how to get to the desired destination step by step (for example, "in 300 meters turn left…"). Navigation also automatically re-calculates the route if you take a wrong turn.
The navigation feature can only be purchased for regions for which a navigable map is available (there are navigable and non-navigable maps). Route simulation is only possible on navigable maps. This is due to the often inferior quality of map information on non-navigable maps.
When Maps uses a mobile internet connection, large amounts of data may be downloaded to your mobile device, resulting in costs arising from the download. See our FAQ on how to keep such costs down and contact your network provider for more information about your data plan.
With Maps v3.03 and later:
Maps version 3.03 and later offer navigation and other services for free. There is no need to use any license on these releases.
Free navigation is available starting from Maps 3.03 version. Maps 3.03 or later is pre-installed in the new devices which support the free navigation. Owners of the compatible devices running an older Maps version get the free navigation features and premium content by upgrading to Maps 3.03 or later. You can get the latest Maps version for your device via SW Update menu in your phone, via Nokia Suite or from Nokia Store.
There is an icon for the Drive application available on your phone's home screen.
You can also start drive navigation from Maps:
1. Search for the destination.
2. Select the place on the map and its information area at the top of the screen.
3. Select Navigate, and Drive here.
Your licence may have expired. Navigation days and other included licences must be activated within 3 months from the first launch of Maps application on your device.

If you already have a valid license for navigation, you can use it for pedestrian navigation if not you need to purchase a navigation license for the desired region before.
Navigation days is a licence of 10 non-consecutive days (1 day = 24 hours). It can be used separately during the first 3 months and enables you to navigate in all supported navigable regions globally.
You can use each credential one by one. Each navigation day has to be activated separately. If you want to use the 10 days in a row, you have to activate each day separately. Other licences are for a subsequent, limited period of time, for example for 30 days in a row. It is not possible to pause a licence period and continue it later.
When you start navigating, the Maps application requests to use one of the navigation days. When you accept the request, a licence for 1 day is activated and is valid for the next 24 hours.
