Geoff Taylor, 38, joined the BPI as Chief Executive in March 2007, having previously held the position of BPI General Counsel June 2004 - October 2005, during which time Taylor led the organisation's campaign of litigation against major illegal filesharers and led the UK recording industry's online Copyright Tribunal proceedings and conducted negotiations.With the four major record companies, as well as hundreds of independent music companies comprising thousands of record labels amongst its membership, the BPI represents the UK recorded music industry.
Prior to running the BPI, Taylor was General Counsel and Executive Vice-President at the IFPI between December 2005 and February 2007. During this time at the IFPI, Taylor oversaw all litigation, licensing, internet anti-piracy and regulary matters - in addition to running the UK online Copyright Tribunal proceedings against collecting society the MCPS and led the settlement negotiations to conclusion. Additionally, Geoff developed IFPI's international internet piracy and litigation strategy, advised IFPI national groups on music publishing negotiations worldwide and developed IFPI's strategy against digital stream ripping. Taylor previously held various legal positions at IFPI 1997-2004, dealing with music publishing issues, regulatory affairs and litigation.
The IFPI is the BPI's sister organisation that represents the recording industry worldwide.
