Jyri Huopaniemi is Head of Mobile Applications Research at Nokia Research
Center, responsible for strategic research in new applications, services and software
platforms. He received his doctoral degree from Helsinki University of Technology
in 1999.
Jyri studied acoustics and audio signal processing, multimedia
and information technology at Helsinki University of Technology (HUT), and received
his M.Sc., Lic. Tech., and D.Sc. (Tech) degrees in electrical and communications
engineering in 1995, 1997 and 1999, respectively. Prior to joining Nokia in 1998
he conducted research on multimedia signal processing at Stanford University and
Helsinki University of Technology.
Jyri is the author or co-author
of over 55 technical articles published in international journals and conferences,
and he has been awarded four patents. He was one of the leading contributors to
the MPEG-4 audio scene description and rendering standardization during 1997-2000,
and he has headed three mobile media standardization efforts in the Java Community
Process.
