Tom is the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Nokia’s Consumer Messaging service line within the Services and Software organization. He is a seasoned high tech executive with over 25 years of experience forming and running businesses in Silicon Valley. In his career he has been responsible for starting up and running multi-billion dollar global businesses in Computer Workstations, Internet Security and Wireless Internet Communications.
Tom started up and ran the graphics workstation business for Digital Equipment Corporation responsible for the VAXstation and DECstation product lines. He was the CTO and SVP of engineering at MIPS computer systems, a fast moving startup responsible for creating and then licensing RISC CPU cores to semiconductor, PC and minicomputer companies. When MIPS was acquired by Silicon Graphics Inc, Tom took over development of low end systems a position that eventually led to his running the global workstation business at SGI.
Tom joined SonicWall, as SVP of Marketing and Engineering where he enhanced the company’s dominance in the firewall market and introduced a parallel line of wireless security solutions based on 802.11. Tom tried his hand at a wireless mesh startup, Kiyon Inc. where he helped develop the 802.11s mesh networking standard for mobile VoIP. Tom joined Nokia in 2006 to head the Enterprise Solutions Security organization.
Tom’s group today is responsible for Nokia’s offerings in consumer messaging to extend Nokia’s core value of connecting people in new and different ways. The consumer messaging group develops and deploys services for connecting people through consumer email, IM and social network connectivity.
