Teppo Paavola is Vice President, Head of Corporate Business Development in Nokia. Nokia is the world leader in mobility, driving the transformation and growth of the converging Internet and communications industries.
Teppo leads new business creation activities in Nokia. Corporate Business Development has four units: Business Development (growth through M&A, partnering, licensing, starting of new ventures, etc.), Partnering & Alliances (creating new revenues with large partners of Nokia), New Business Programs (taking internal ventures to market in Nokia’s new growth areas) and New Business Technology (identifying, integrating and maturing new technologies into new product and services concepts). He is also the Chairman of the Board of INdT, a Nokia-funded R&D institute in Brazil. Teppo joined Nokia in 2004.
Teppo is a five-time entrepreneur who founded his first company as a teenager in 1981, most recently as CEO of Oplayo (2002-2004), a mobile video company. In the early 90’s he went into consulting and was in charge of several productivity consulting projects in e.g. Nokia in the role of Project Director of IMPAC Ltd. After consulting and before returning to his entrepreneurial career in the software industry, Teppo spent four years in financial services with GE Capital in Mergers & Acquisitions and Business Development positions in London and Stockholm, and most recently as Managing Director of GE Capital Equipment Finance in Finland.
Teppo earned his M.Sc. in Economics from the Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration in 1991, and MBA in General Management from INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France in 1996.
