What should I do when the Nokia Belle FP2 (or Refresh) update using FOTA fail? I have the UMU MS full application installed on my Nokia Belle device. - Nokia FAQ

Average Rating

You should uninstall the UMU MS full application from the Nokia Belle device before upgrading to Nokia Belle Refresh or Nokia Belle FP2.

If you have upgraded via Nokia Suite, the UMU MS full application will reset phone when you launch it. We recommend uninstalling the application.

The UMU MS full application has been removed from Nokia Store. The problem in the application is under the investigation of a third party. The application should not be reinstalled until issues have been fixed by the third party.

In case you have downloaded and paid the UMU MS full application from Nokia Store, contact Nokia Care to receive a refund.

How do I format my Nokia device? - Nokia FAQ

Average Rating

You can format your device by typing *#7370# in standby mode. Before the device is reset, you may need to provide the lock code. The default lock code is 12345.

IMPORTANT NOTICE!

  • Formatting the device will permanently erase all user data and settings as well as add-on applications and operator specific settings.
  • If you have made a backup of the device data, the data can be restored from the backup after formatting but some add-on applications can have restrictions that they are not restored from the backup.
  • If you use formatting to repair faulty behaviour of the device, restoring the backed-up data files may restore the unwanted behaviour as well. In that case, a partial restore may resolve the situation.
  • The contents of the SIM card and memory card (MMC) are not erased during formatting. Note, however, that in some device models (e.g. Nokia N8-00, E7-00, E6-00, C7-00 and X7-00) the internal mass memory E: will be formatted in this situation. It is therefore important that you back up all your data from the E: mass memory before resetting the device. Use Nokia Suite to back up the contents to your PC.

Can I use the "three finger" reset to hard reset my Nokia Symbian^3 device? - Nokia FAQ

Average Rating

It is not recommended to use the "three finger" reset (pressing volume down + camera key + menu key and pressing power button) to hard reset your Nokia Symbian^3 device. Doing this may delete some applications (Nokia Store, Nokia Maps, some preinstalled widgets) which cannot in all cases be restored.

If the device needs to be reset, try the following methods instead of the "three finger" reset:

  1. Press down the power button for 8 seconds.
  2. Restore the factory settings by selecting Menu > Settings > Phone > Phone management > Factory settings > Restore.
  3. Restore the factory settings and delete all data by selecting Menu > Settings > Phone > Phone management > Factory settings > Delete data and restore. (Note that all the user files on E: mass memory and C: phone memory will be deleted with this command, e.g. the photos and videos. It is therefore important to backup the user data before using this command).

The "three finger" reset should be used only as a last resort if the device cannot be booted up in any other way. If successful, the device can be used after the reset but some of the applications are missing. To restore the missing applications and settings, you can try the following:

  • Reinstall phone software with Nokia Suite.
  • Select Menu > SW Update (or Menu > Applications > SW Update) and install any updates that are available.
  • If Nokia Store application is successfully restored, connect to Nokia Store to search and install the missing applications (check My Stuff menu for the applications you have previously installed).
  • Check also for any application updates available via Nokia Suite (plug in your device to Nokia Suite PC and go to Software Updates menu in Nokia Suite).
  • If any device backup is available, try restoring the data from the backup.

If the device cannot be properly restored, take it to a Nokia Care point for reflashing to get the original applications back in the device.

How do I use my Symbian^3 device as a modem to connect my PC to internet? - Nokia FAQ

Average Rating

You can use your Symbian^3 device (e.g. Nokia N8-00) as a modem to connect your PC or laptop to internet in the following way:

  1. Install Nokia Suite in your PC or laptop.
  2. Check that you have a SIM card inserted in your phone and that the phone is not in offline mode.
  3. Connect your phone via USB cable or Bluetooth connection to your PC or laptop (USB connection preferred because it provides a faster and more reliable connection). When connecting via USB, check that the phone is using Nokia Ovi Suite mode (check the default mode in Menu > Settings > Connectivity > USB).
  4. Accept any installation requests which you may receive in your phone.
  5. In Nokia Suite, select Tools > Connect to internet.

The internet connection is now established via your phone. To disconnect, select Tools > Disconnect in Nokia Suite.

If the connection doesn't succeed, check the connection settings in Nokia Suite menu Tools > Options > Connect to internet. Select your network operator from the list or, if not found, use the manual settings and define the access point name to be used in your operator network. You can also define the user name and password if these are required by your operator.

My Nokia phone's screen is made from Gorilla Glass. What does that mean? - Nokia FAQ

Average Rating

Corning® Gorilla® Glass is known for better durability, which is preventing the scratches from further propagating in comparison to a normal glass.

While stronger than normal, is still made of glass, and improper use can result in scratches and breakages. If the screen is still not looking normal, please see the repair options at your local Nokia support pages. Please note that liquid and physical damage are not covered by the warranty.

Nokia products with Corning® Gorilla® Glass are listed here .

How do I reset my Symbian^3 device? - Nokia FAQ

Average Rating

There are two different reset commands available to restore the factory settings in Nokia Symbian^3 devices (e.g. Nokia N8-00, E7-00, C7-00, Astound, C6-01, 700). The commands can be found in Menu > Settings > Phone > Phone management > Factory settings:

1) Restore

  • This command restores the original (i.e. factory) settings and does not affect documents or files stored on the device.
  • Email settings need to be recreated after the reset.
  • This command is the same as the command *#7780# typed on the keypad.

2) Delete data and restore

  • This command restores the original (factory) settings and deletes all content from mass memory (E:), also the pre-loaded content including e.g. widgets. The command deletes also all user content from the phone memory (C:).
  • All the settings need to be recreated after the reset and the applications reinstalled.
  • This command is the same as the command *#7370# typed on the keypad.
  • Note that all the user files on E: mass memory and C: phone memory will be deleted, e.g. the photos and videos. It is therefore important to copy the user data before resetting the device. Use Ovi Suite to take a full backup of the device contents.
  • Don't use this command unless necessarily needed because some of the pre-installed applications (e.g. Web TV widgets) may get deleted and need to be reinstalled via Ovi Store or from Menu > Applications > SW Update.

When resetting the device, you may be prompted to give a lock code. If the lock code has not been changed, the default code is 12345.

Before resetting, end all active calls and connections. If necessary, select the offline profile and check that there are no WLAN connections active.

Why does the screen go blank in my device when I make or receive a call? - Nokia FAQ

Average Rating

The screen gets turned off during a phone call when the proximity sensor is covered. This is done to avoid accidental touch screen actions when keeping the phone close to the ear during the phone call. The proximity sensor is located in the top part on the display side of the device (e.g. Nokia N8-00, C6-01, C7-00, E7-00, Nokia Lumia phones).

If the screen gets turned off immediately when dialing a number or receiving a call, check that you are not covering the proximity sensor e.g. with your finger. Check also that there's no protective foil tape on the screen which would cause the proximity sensor to react too easily and turn off the screen when still in the process of setting up the phone call. If using 3rd party screen protectors, the protector may not be of the right size and will cover the proximity sensor, causing blank screen issues during the calls.
