The Nokia 6230 phone supports EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for Global Evolution) network service. In EDGE packet transmission networks, the connection is faster than in GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) networks. EDGE is also known as (E)GPRS (Enhanced General Packet Radio Service).

The applications that may use (E)GPRS are MMS, video streaming, browsing sessions, e-mail, remote SyncML, Java application downloading and the PC dial-up (for example, Internet and e-mail).

Before you can use (E)GPRS technology:

  • Contact your network operator or service provider for availability and subscription to the (E)GPRS service.

  • Save the (E)GPRS settings for each of the applications used over (E)GPRS.

For information on pricing, contact your network operator or service provider.

In addition to EDGE/(E)GPRS and GPRS, the Nokia 6230 phone also supports HSCSD (High Speed Circuit Switched Data), CSD (Circuit Switched Data) and GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) as data bearers.

Note that when you have selected GPRS as a data bearer, the phone uses (E)GPRS instead of GPRS if this is available in the network. You cannot select between (E)GPRS and GPRS but for some applications you may be able to select either GPRS or GSM data (CSD, Circuit Switched Data).
