5G in India
5G, the fifth generation of cellular networks, heralds a new era in communications- it brings a paradigm shift in the role of mobile technologies beyond connectivity. 5G services in India were launched on 1st October 2022. As the country moves ahead with its Digital India vision, it offers the opportunity to leapfrog to the next generation of digital connectivity and create new business models and revenue streams.

R&D Centres: Nokia's commitment to India is deeply engraved in the way we harness the potential of local talent for research and development. One of the 4 main global R&D sites for the company, the Bangalore R&D center is undertaking research in various advanced global telecommunication technologies like telco cloud, big data analytics, software applications, next-generation core, IP, Optical, 4G and 5G.

Our Chennai R&D center, one of our largest R&D facilities for Fixed Networks, focuses on access broadband technologies Including Copper, Fiber, Broadband Devices, Services and Management Solutions.

Manufacturing Operations: Nokia’s Chennai facility, best-in-class infrastructure with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 ISO 27001 certifications and spreads over 140,000 Sq. meters. This facility manufactures & ships the complete gamut of telecom products (2G, 3G, LTE & Core Networks) for domestic and global markets with close to 50% of the finished radio base station products being exported. The factory was the first to start production of 5G radio equipment in India.

In 2018, Nokia deployed the next level of industrial automation, leveraging 4G LTE technology at the factory, making it India's first 'real-world' application of Industry 4.0. The factory committed to enable government’s vision for `Make in India’. Nokia’s Chennai factory is the first telecom factory in India to start manufacturing 5G New Radio base stations.
Global Delivery Centers: Nokia was a pioneer in setting up its largest Global Delivery Centers in Chennai and Noida. These centers today employ over 2600 highly skilled employees in India who provide life cycle support to networks across over 100 countries.
