Nokia Networks launches zero CO2 emission base station site offering #MWC15
- Reduces base station site energy consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 70%; aims at carbon neutral operation
- First to power base station sites with 100% renewable energy to reduce last 30% of CO2 emission to zero
- Launches more than 20 enhancements for Single RAN Advanced portfolio to decouple mobile broadband traffic growth from CO2 emissions
Espoo, Finland - 24 February 2015
Nokia Networks launches more than 20 products and services for its Single RAN Advanced portfolio at Mobile World Congress 2015. These help to achieve up to a 70% reduction in energy consumption, creating a significant driver for modernizing base station sites. The portfolio allows a broad use of renewable energy sources, making them a viable option* for powering base station sites.
The remaining 30% of the CO2 emissions can be reduced to Zero by 100% green energy sources
The cost of solar energy systems has fallen by more than 80% during the last 10 years. With its significantly lower energy consumption, the zero-emission base station site can use solar, wind and fuel cell renewable energy sources to achieve zero CO2 emissions. Zero-emission base station sites can now be built for all electricity grid situations, from good grid to no grid.
The solution can also reduce an operator's Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for a base station site by up to 30% .
New Single RAN Advanced portfolio at a glance:
- World's first multiband and multi-technology Active Antenna family supporting 4x2 and 4x4 MIMO capable radio in each band. The new Nokia Radio Antenna System combines an ultra wideband antenna and multiple standard Remote Radio Heads (RRH) in a single enclosure, saving space, reducing feeder losses and simplifying installation and maintenance.
- LTE Energy Efficiency software features cut the energy consumption of RF units by up to 50%.
- Flexi Power Battery creates more environmentally-friendly battery backup solutions for sites with Flexi Power Rectifier and can be used with renewable energy sources. The all-weather outdoor compact battery also eliminates the need for energy-consuming cooling systems and enclosures necessary for traditional battery solutions.
- Together with software that allows the Flexi Multiradio 10 System Module to be shared across GSM/WCDMA/LTE technologies, and which cuts System Module energy consumption by up to 50%, the new capabilities make the Nokia Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station the most energy efficient base station on the market.
- The "Zero Emission" demo will be shown at the Nokia Experience Center, Hall 3, Stand 3B10.
- Asset Recovery and Re-marketing Services can boost the modernization of old, energy hungry equipment by ensuring that aging and obsolete equipment in the field today are valued, re-used, recovered and re-cycled by environmentally-compliant processes.
