Nokia and Moratelindo upgrade optical transport network to boost capacity in Indonesia
- Moratelindo has deployed Nokia’s high-performance optical transport solution to enhance network capacity to multi-terabytes internationally, in Jakarta and across Java Island
- Nokia’s state-of-the-art solution will open up new monetization opportunities for Moratelindo
26 October 2022
Jakarta, Indonesia – Nokia today announced that Moratelindo has deployed its optical transport solution to boost the network capacity to 3 terabytes in Jakarta and, 2 terabytes in Java Island, scaling the network beyond 24Tb, covering over 52,000km of fiber across the Indonesian archipelago. The deployment, having been rolled out in June this year, together with another link 3.2 terabytes toward Singapore, will enable Moratelindo to provide improved bandwidth to the end-users while maintaining the costs to customers. The new transport network will allow Moratelindo to monetize its network as Network-as-a-Service (NaaS).
Nokia's innovative solution will allow Moratelindo to integrate their existing network with the latest version of traffic modules, thus saving capital expenditure and increasing the life of the installed infrastructure while providing an improved experience to customers.
Powered by the fifth-generation coherent optics, the Nokia Photonic Service Engine V (PSE-V) technology, the modernized optical transport network will enable Moratelindo to minimize its footprint while addressing the growing capacity requirement. Nokia's solution also includes the 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) to help Moratelindo maximize the reach and capacity of the transport network.
Michael McPhail, Chief Technology Officer at PT. Mora Telematika Indonesia, said: "Nokia is a global leader in optical transport technology and its PSE-V solution will allow us to cost-efficiently and sustainably upgrade our optical backbone. The modernization of the optical network will enable us to increase capacity per module while bringing down the cost. This crucial upgrade will further deepen our engagement with Nokia and allow us to maintain our competitive edge by further improving network performance.”
KP Goh, President Director at Nokia Indonesia, said: “Our industry-leading optical solution will allow Moratelindo to more than double the capacity without adding extra shelves. Moratelindo will be able to use the existing network elements along with new generation traffic modules which will bring down investment while enhancing customer experience. Nokia solution ensures seamless integration of the terrestrial and subsea network thus simplifying the management of the operations.”
Notes to Editors:
Nokia’s 1830 PSS-x solutions provide a doubling of switching capacity up to a market-leading 48Tb/s, new wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) uplinks based on Nokia’s fifth-generation Photonic Service Engines (PSE-V) and expand the range of wholesale service options with new client interfaces supporting 400GE service transport, with a wide range of hard and soft isolation features for network slicing.
