PRS for positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) services

Positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) is used for a wide range of services including emergency services, critical infrastructure, defence, and commercial applications such as autonomous systems and agriculture. While GPS has often been employed to support PNT services, there are several challenges including weak signals, vulnerability to jamming, and limitations in precision. This white paper, introduces PRS, describes the 3GPP-defined architectural enhancements for PNT, explores different positioning techniques that use PRS, and outlines the key use cases that benefit from PRS.
