Nokia to Sell Its Tuner Operations

Nokia, which is discontinuing the production of tuners and the related sales generated, will continue developing tuners for multimedia equipment in Turku. In the future, these components designed to meet the special needs required by digital transmission technology will be manufactured by subcontractors.

"Developing the multimedia tuners needed in multimedia terminals requires solid experience and know-how in radio frequency technology. A command of this technology has long been important for Nokia in the design of tuners for satellite receivers and now for multimedia terminals as well," says Heikki Koskinen, President of the Nokia Multimedia Network Terminals division.

Nokia’s multimedia terminal production began in 1996 in Motala, Sweden.

Nokia Multimedia Network Terminals has all together around 700 employees in Finland, Sweden, Germany and elsewhere in Europe. Nokia’s multimedia terminal products are mainly sold in Europe.
