All electrical devices generate electromagnetic fields (EMF). Mobile communications use low-power radio waves – a form of EMF similar to those emitted by a range of other wireless devices such as radar, radio and television broadcasts.
After decades of scientific research, the World Health Organization has stated that no adverse health effects have been established as being caused by mobile phone use.
We recognize that some people remain concerned about the safety of radio waves and we maintain a dialogue and respond to concerns. Nokia Networks is engaged in this discussion together with governments, mobile network operators and other stakeholders.
We are committed to helping stakeholders gain access to quality fact-based information from reputable independent expert sources and we provide links on this site to sources of objective scientific information. See research on radio waves and health.
The most widely recognized global guidance on radio waves and health is set by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). Exposure to radio waves within the limits recommended by ICNIRP is not known to have any effect on human health.
Nokia Networks products are designed to operate well within these limits and comply with relevant national and international safety standards and guidelines set by regulatory authorities.
We engage with mobile network operators – our customers – to raise their awareness of EMF issues. We also provide detailed instructions to ensure they are able to operate equipment appropriately to keep local exposure within recommended limits.
