RXRM for manufacturing

Streamlined efficiency in real-time

Discrete Manufacturing

Quality. Efficiency. Consistency. Three core requirements in discrete manufacturing – and three areas in which RXRM can allow businesses to excel. 360° video and 3D spatial audio capture opens up new possibilities in manufacturing processes for discrete applications.

Quality control

Quality control

Quality control is central to any discrete manufacturing process. The feed provided by RXRM’s ultra-HD audio-visual technology can help monitor the visual quality at various stages of the production line while Its feed can be combined with visual analytics to automate visual inspection. This leads to cost savings in terms of manpower, speeds up processes and, with 8K resolution at 60 fps, improves accuracy as RXRM’s visibility outperforms the human eye.

Remote customer support

Remote customer support

Many manufactured products, such as heavy-duty vehicles, industrial machinery and electrical goods, come with sales maintenance and services included in the contract. With RXRM, customer service can be applied remotely. Remote after sales support ensures that maintenance tasks can also be performed without personnel having to physically travel to the site. Predictive diagnostics are also possible. For the buyer, this means that issues can be resolved in a fraction of the time, thus avoiding the inconvenience of unnecessary downtime. The fast recovery of a customer’s operations will lead to improved customer satisfaction and retention.

Inventory monitoring

Inventory monitoring

Shortfalls in materials and parts have led to supply issues becoming a growing concern for manufacturers in recent times. RXRM can convey a highly accurate 360° picture of the occupancy level of the inventory in real-time, avoiding constant manual inventory monitoring. With its easy and adaptable software setup, RXRM is a scalable solution that can be expanded as and when needed in accordance with fluctuating demand. RXRM is a solution for general level inventory monitoring. For a more specific, aisle-based or article-based inventory monitoring, or inventory management, see the Nokia Autonomous Industrial Monitoring Service

Process Manufacturing

Process manufacturing is often based around a business model that leans heavily on automated processes and requires round-the-clock operation. Any unexpected downtime is both expensive and difficult to put right. This is exactly where RXRM can thrive - a flexible and easy-to-use solution that excels in delivering a holistic, hi-res view of operations on the ground.

Industrial automation

Industrial automation

There are two ways in which remote operation can be utilized for process manufacturing use cases:

  1. Some operations can be carried out entirely remotely, using 360° videos and immersive 3D audio. With the help of the customer’s own, or Nokia-recommended hardware, RXRM provides an all-encompassing overview of areas too dangerous or remote for a constant worker presence. Examples may include high-pressure processes in the oil and gas industry, those in remote offshore locations such as hydropower plants or oil rigs, or areas with exposure to hazardous materials such as on nuclear power plants.
  2. Remote operation and monitoring does no’t have to be restricted to locations hundreds of miles away. Personnel no longer have to travel across a plant site but can instead monitor and operate applications from a central control center. Visual information from remote sites can be aggregated. This data is then connected to management systems to work as one feed monitored easily by one person. This saves personnel needs, saves huge amounts of time and energy and enables pre-emptive responses that avoid unwanted downtime.

Quality control

Quality control

When monitoring process manufacturing for quality control, the work can often be monotonous. This means that it is not always possible for the human eye to pick up discrepancies in production. RXRM can utilise video analytics to autonomize the process, thus reducing manpower costs and achieving a better level of efficiency. The technology’s 60fps 8k image is capable of instantly spotting any inconsistencies, pre-empting any potential issues and minimizing the risk of having to pause production. 3D Spatial Audio also makes it easier for remote operators to filter noise, detect anomalies and provide decision support to those on the ground.

Additional use cases

The possibilities for multimedia in real-time are vast in an industry which in which efficiency and automation play key roles. If you envision a use case that may benefit from 360° video, 3D audio and XR capablities, Nokia can make it happen.
