Try easy fixes

If you’re thinking of sending your tablet for repair, check these easy steps first. They may fix the issue and save you time and effort.

Easy fix 1: Restart your tablet

1. Close any desktop apps you have open.

2. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and tap Settings.

3. Tap Power > Restart.

If you tablet does not respond to touch or mouse, do the following. This does not delete any of your personal files or settings.

1.      Press and hold down the power key for 10 seconds. Tablet turns off.

2.      Press the power key to start the tablet again.

Easy fix 2: Charge your tablet

1. Plug the charger to a wall outlet.

2. Connect the charger to your tablet.

3. When your tablet indicates a full charge, disconnect the charger from the tablet, then from the wall outlet.

If the battery is completely discharged, it may take several minutes before the charging indicator shows.

If the battery hasn’t been used for a long time, you may need to connect the charger, then disconnect and reconnect it to begin charging.

Easy fix 3: Refresh your Windows system

Refreshing your Windows system reinstalls Windows without removing your personal files, settings, the applications that came with your tablet and applications that you have installed from Windows Store

1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and tap Settings > Change PC Settings > Update and recovery

2. Under Refresh your PC without affecting your files, select Get started and follow the instructions on the screen.

Easy fix 4: Reset your tablet

If your tablet isn’t working properly, resetting can help solve issues. Note: Not all content, such as music and other files, stored on the hard drive is automatically synced to SkyDrive. Make sure you’ve made backup copies of your content, for example, on an external hard drive or memory card or stick before reinstalling Windows.

1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and tap Settings > Change PC Settings > Update and recovery > Recovery

2. Under Remove everything and reinstall Windows, tap Get started. When asked, select Fully clean the drive. Your tablet resets. This takes several minutes.

3. Confirm language and region settings, and log in with your Microsoft account, or local account if you don’t have a Microsoft account.

4. To update software, swipe in from the right edge of the screen and tap Settings > Change PC Settings > Update and recovery > Windows update > Check now > View details -> Install

5. To complete the installation of software updates, restart your tablet.

6. After restarting, your tablet searches for updates to preinstalled apps. This may take up to 20 minutes. Update the apps, and you’re good to go. You can reinstall all purchased apps from Store.

Easy fixes didn’t help?

If none of the tips above helped to solve your problem, or if you have an issue with non-functional hardware, for example, a blank screen, your tablet not switching on, or non-functioning keys or connectors, your tablet may need repair.
