The requirements and some of the problems associated with a global short-wave broadcasting system are briefly discussed and an outline is given of proposals for such a system. It would consist of twelve 200 kW transmitters feeding a system of highly directive aerials, thus concentrating the energy into sharply focused beams covering given world areas or zones with signals of maximum intensity and making reception of programmes possible in spite of occasional jamming, either intentional or unintentional. Operational flexibility would be achieved by the use of various frequencies with specially suitable aerial arrays. The layout and general equipment of one of the 200 kW stations is briefly described.
