Build on our patents to make innovative products
For more than 30 years, we have been pushing the boundaries of what's possible in communications.
Through our continuous investment in research and development (R&D), we have created one of the broadest and strongest patent portfolios in the communications industry. We hold Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) for cellular communications, wireless LAN (WLAN) and multi-media technologies.
We contribute to standards to help the industry advance and grow together and our world-class patent portfolio is available to other companies through our patent licensing programs.
We have achieved the highly respected ISO 9001 certification for Nokia's high-quality patent portfolio management.

To enable you to access the patented technology you need, we have dedicated teams and licensing programs for mobile devices, consumer electronics, video services, automotive and Internet of Things. We currently have around 200 licensees, licensed through our patent licensing programs.
Our experts can help you to enter into license agreements for our SEP portfolio, so that you can add standards-compliant connectivity and video processing to your products.
If it connects to a mobile network, it uses our inventions. We work with mobile device manufacturers to license our SEPs for 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G.
Consumer electronics and video services
Video streaming would not be possible without our inventions. We license a world-class portfolio of implementation patents and SEPs that are used in consumer electronics such as smart TVs and laptops and while streaming over networks.
Connected vehicles use wireless communications to update maps and software, or download infotainment. Our automotive team licenses the patents for connectivity.
Internet of Things
Our IoT team concludes licensing agreements for our connectivity patents, covering applications such as payment terminals, smart meters and asset tracking.
