We propose an interferometer structure that uses a local laser to coherently detect and re-transmit an electronically processed optical wave in one of its interference paths. This allows arbitrary time/frequency manipulations of the interfering signal within the system's bandwidth capabilities. We demonstrate an application of this optoelectronic interferometer as a subcarrier add/drop node in a digital optical communication c system. 2011 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: 000.0000, 999.9999.
