Application of self-phase modulation and optical filtering to measurement of ersidual chromatic dispersion

We demonstrate that spectral filtering of a self phase modulation broadened bit stream may be used to measure residual dispersion. Our experiment employs 40Gbit/s return-to-zero signals and demonstrates a relevant context for the measurement method: an optical fiber regenerator.
