Architecture Optimization of 3rd Generation Wireless Systems Based on Use Cases
12 February 2004
A simulation methodology based on Message Sequence Charts (MSCs) to analyze alternative network architectures and protocol stacks with respect to performance is described in this paper. An event-driven simulation model is generated automatically from a set of use cases which are based on MSCs and describe the system behavior. This methodology can be applied to compare possible evolution scenarios of the UMTS architecture beyond 3GPP standards R5 to the current UMTS architecture as well as for optimization of particular architectures as well as for optimization of particular architectures in terms of performance.
