Architectures and Protocols to Support Broadband Services

Technology in support of broadband services uses new protocols which are based on new architectures for metropolitan area networks and broadband switches. Several of these new protocols like FDDI, DQDB, and ATM are discussed together with potential supporting architectures. The need for standardization and harmonization of future public and private broadband services is emphasized.
