Are multilevel pseudorandom sequences really needed to emulate highly dispersive optical transmission systems?

We discuss what test sequences should be used to accurately emulate dispersive transmissions with multilevel modulations. Contrary to previous understanding, multilevel pseudorandom sequences are not more suited than binary ones. Neither of them truly represents the behavior of random data.
