Asymmetric feedback external cavity laser diodes: Comparison of experiment and simulation
01 January 2009
Broad area laser diodes have been widely used in modern society and offer advantages including high output powers, simple operation and relatively low cost. However, these lasers suffer from poor beam quality, which can be a significant issue in applications such as telecommunications, medicine, displays and laser manufacturing. This paper presents possible selective feedback to a particular lateral mode from the external cavity using an asymmetric feedback technique. The simulation and experiment show a good agreement with respect to spatial hole burning and the far-field distribution.
