AT&T Advanced Services Platform
27 November 1989
The AT&T Advanced Services Platform (ASP) is a set of capabilities being developed for the 5ESS(R) Service Switching Point (SSP) system. ASP constitutes an initial release of service independent capabilities for an Intelligent Network (IN). It is a platform of capabilities based on the Bellcore TR 402 requirements for `Additional Service Switching Point and Related End Office Capabilities', that provides a suitable base for near term IN needs as well as for future IN evolution.
Flexible network functions are supported by the SSP that allow customized services to be deployed within a Service Control Point (SCP). The SCP directs the service activities performed by the SSP via instructions sent over a Signaling System 7 (SS7) interface that uses a standardized Transaction Capabilities Application Part (TCAP) protocol.
