Auditory Nerve Representation as a basis for speech enhancement

Very little information is available about the processing principles that are used by the brain stem auditory nuclei and by the auditory cortex. However, recent studies on the responses of large population of primary nerve fibers in the cat to speech-like stimuli provide considerable data about the way speech is represented at the auditory nerve level.
