Due to the currently increasing use of smart phones, the amount of data handled by mobile operators has been rising steeply. Mobile operators try to guarantee that the service is always and everywhere available to all of their customers and consequently, the BTS's are always be active (always connected), causing a high power consumption. A new network architecture is developed to solve this problem. Many challenges occurred, one of which is positioning the transmitting antenna using real measurements from smart phones. In this report, previous work for localizing the transmitting antenna is discussed, and many popular techniques for obtaining the User-to-transmitting antenna distance measurements are analyzed. Additionally, the direct positioning of the transmitting is described, simulated and evaluated.
